Hi Uwe,

Here is a link that decodes you date of manufacture from your serial number:

http://www.va3cr.net/1000MP/Tips/Material/SerialNumbers.htm

Based on this your date of manufacture is March 2002. I am sorry to hear
you got taken or at the very least your radio was misrepresented. Please
publish the source of your radio purchase. It is the least we can do to
expose dishonest people. Personally I never buy from ebay and never buy
used unless I know the seller. This is a lesson learned from experience
over 25 years. I have never bought a used radio that was in the condition
as advertised.

Subject: [1000mp] Production Date of Mark-V?

Hello,

first of all, I'd like to introduce myself, because I'm new to this list. My
name is Uwe, call DL8UF (formerly DL8SAI, DG3SV), licensed since 1979 with a
long break, but reactivated in 2002. I like soldering (G-QRP, DL-QRP-AG ;-)
but also serious DXing, 100% in CW.

Last week, I got a FT-1000MP Mark-V, which I bought on ebay. It was promised
to be NEW (half year old, but never used). Well, it looks good, but there is
dust in the small gaps and slots, it doesn't smell like new electronic rig
does and the fan is grumbling a little bit, when it is on.

I'm sure, this rig is between 2 and 3 years old.
The serial number is: 2E030063 and the manufacturing date in the hidden menu
says: 022040503. I don't know how to interpret this date, this could be
04/05/03 but also 22/04/05. Can anybody help?

Furthermore I'd like to know, whether the grumbling (deep humming, like a
bumble bee) of the fan is normal, or if this might be signal, that the fan
was already running for a long time and the bearings of the fan are already
"worn out"?

73 de Uwe, DL8UF
