[1000mp] Relay thing..deaf receiver

There are plenty of us who have had this problem.
My FT1000MP went back to Yaesu on warranty in 1999 after it exhibited this
behavior on a DXpedition. The tech claimed to be unable to reproduce the
problem, despite my instructions on how to do so. He eventually replaced a
bunch of parts, including at least one DIP relay, which were included when
the radio was returned; no reference designators were provided, so I cannot
tell you exactly what was replaced.
The problem has reoccurred, although with less severity. To my knowledge,
Yaesu has never acknowledged its existence; Chip K7JA never responded to
emails. I told the whole story to Miki, WA6F while in Florianopolis; I doubt
if anything has been done or will be done about it.

Subject: [1000mp] Relay thing..deaf receiver
Hello,
The recent thread on shipping the rig to Yeasu prompts this question. I have
a MkV that is getting progressively worse where the receiver will go into an
abrupt "fade" of 30 or more db. A brief tap of the key or ptt brings it
right back. I recall the threads about relay contact dewetting. Which relay
do I need to replace? Is it hard to get to? If I do this, will the problem
recure? I am considering shipping the rig to Yeasu, but if I can handle it
myself, I will. Sorry for the repeated thread...this was discussed greatly a
few years back, but I cannot find the thread in the archives. thanks
