[1000mp] Convert 240 - 120 volts

G'day,
  I have a FT-1000 MKV Field Ser # 2K120022, that is running on 240 volt
setup and doesn't appear to be switch select voltage.  Can I convert to 120
volts?  As a matter of fact, without tearing the entire unit apart, I can't
even find the supply transformer.
  Other option is to run on 13.8 V dc?  Gave that a half baked attempt using
an MFJ-4125 supply but can't get enough current to hold, on power up.
Probably need to obtain a heftier DC supply.
  Be advised that I am not set up for major "anything, radio-wise" as I am
intransient, trying to get resettled  after returning CONUS earlier this
year.
  Have researched all I can and manual has no info to help solve my dilemma,
at all.    What say someone, with more experience.
