[ARC5] SCR-183 Manuals GF/RU

Mike,

I didn't mean that the GF and RU were all 14-volt, but that the
transmitters and receivers that are a part of those sets are all 14 volt regardless of
what the nameplate says. Which is not true of the transmitters and
receivers used in SCR-A*-183 and SCR-A*-283. In the GF and RU, the only difference
between the transmitters and the receivers marked for 14 or 28 VDC is the
nameplate. The only three components of the GF/RU that are functionally
differerent between the 14 and 28 volt sets are the dynamotor, antenna relay (GF
only), and junction box. Everything else is just nameplate. So you could
(and the Navy at times no doubt did) mix and match RU-11/12 and RU-18/19
marked receivers regardless of what aircraft they were in. But you could only
mix RU-11/18 or RU-12/19 dynamotors and junction boxes. All (AFAIK) 28 volt
junction boxes have two externally mounted filament dropping resistors.
