[ARC5] CBY-55209 ? MODEL ATA

Hi Ben,

The ATA transmitters aren't all that rare; but the modulators, control boxes etc from the ATA series are seldom seen these days.  For some reason there seem to be a notable number of ATA shock mounts and those are more common than ARC-5 mounts.

The ATA transmitters and all other ATA system components are identical to the Signal Corps SCR-274N series except for the data plates, and the fact that all ATA stuff is black whereas most 274N gear is unpainted.
Something I have noticed is that the ATA transmitters covering 7-9.1 mc don't surface that often compared to the 4-5.3 and 5.3-7 versions.

I'm lucky to have an ATA modulator (identical to the BC-456) and an ATA dual transmitter rack; but may never see an ATA transmitter control box in my lifetime!
As you probably know, the ARC-5 series replaced the ATA beginning in mid-WW2.  The result was that many new ATA items went unused.  This  probably accounts for how many really decent ATA transmitters were around back in the early surplus era (and still are); but since there wasn't that much USN equipment in the ETO compared to USAAF, I'm not surprised that they may be rare in Britain.  I wonder how many crates of this stuff are still siting in abandoned Pacific supply dumps, or on the bottom of the ocean where they were shoved off carrier decks.

Just found a CBY-52209 Model ATA 4-5.3MHz transmitter

Is this any rarer than the AN/ARC-5 version?
