I'm coming late to the party, guys.  Been on the road.
This looks to me like an original finish that's been oiled-
certainly hope not with "Armor All" or any other silicon junk.
It's a "first Western Electric run" 1509-NY-41 set and
is supposed to be in wrinkle.

Did you know lightly oiling black wrinkle was actually
taught in WWII Air Corps Radio Mechanic schools?  
I have the books here somewhere and will make 
an effort to find the quote if someone's interested.
Been years but it's here.  I certainly oil mine 
with light machine oil and it makes them look fine.

Each to his own, but I don't see anything major
wrong with this radio.  Barring silicon spray.
