[ARC5] What is original unmodified condition

There were plenty of engineering change notices back in the 
day.  DIdn't deal with them at the squadron level, only at
the intermediate (AIMD in the Navy) and depots.

I worked a HF and UHF comm radio bench in an AIMD once
upon a time (40 +/- years ago), and many of the
modules that went into ARC-51, ARC-52, etc, had already
been modded at the depots.  

When those radios were removed from service, wouldn't they
have been "original" in at least one sense?
