Reluctantly I am offering for sale my Amplex KW-62 amplifier and power
supply for sale. When I was first licensed in the 50's, this was the
amplifier to have! Unfortunately I could only dream of owning one at that
time.

Though not many will be familiar with this amplifier, it was built in the
late 50's in Michigan, uses a pair of Amplex 4CX250B's and was designed to
be used on both 6 and 2 meters. It has a dual band grid input circuit and
the band was selected by using either the removable 6 or 2 meter RF PA
section. I have only the 6 meter PA section but from pictures I believe the
2 meter section could be easily built. An on board blower is included in the
original design.

The Amplex KW-62 was designed to meter both grid and screen current as well
as balance each tube for maximum performance. A plate meter was also
provided. Construction is just beautiful. It was reviewed in the July 1958
issue of QST by Ed Tilton.

I built a power supply for it that is the same chassis size as the amplifier
of 7" X 12" using a Collins 30L-1 power transformer that supplies plate
voltage and bias voltage. The rectifier and filtering is done by a new and
improved 30L-1 filter diode board. A new Hammond transformer is used for
regulated screen voltage. I designed the supply to emulate the operation of
my Collins KWS-1 which allows for reduced screen voltage for tune and
operate positions.

I was able to achieve 500 watts output using only 15 watts drive from my
ICOM 7000. The amplifier seems quite stable.

I am asking $500 for the amplifier and supply plus shipping. Pictures are
available. If interested, please contact me off list at nj2r at verizon.net
