It's a BC-779A or BC-779B. B was made by Hammarlund during WWII, and the
A was made by Howard Radio under contract to Hammarlund. I've restored one
so I can provide some help if needed.
As far as the caps, there's lots of old paper caps (in molded plastic
package) that need to be replaced. They are under chassis, in the RF tuning
unit, and in some of the IF cans. As far as the "bathtub" units mounted on
the side walls, they may be OK if they are not leaking oil. However, since
completing the restoration, I've had two of those leak and short. So it
may be prudent to replace those also.
On the other hand, the oil-filled caps in the power supply are still
functioning well after 60 years.
Good luck
Ed W2EMN
