There has been a guy selling an overpriced 1625 regen on Ebay for years.
Even an 813 and 304TL has been used.

Don't laugh! There have been articles on using the 807 as a regenerative
receiver. Using one of the 6146 family would work about the same.

I've occasionally done some thinking on the topic of real old-time radio,
back to the days of TRF's and triodes, when just one tube type was used for
all receiver functions (no rectifier), the days of the 01A. I've also
contemplated what more modern tube might be used in a similar pursuit. I
recall seeing a simple receiver in one of the ARRL books which used only
6U8.
In an unrelated web search, "6146" turns up in many locations a treatise by
Glen Zook on the dangers of subbing with the 6146B.
Combining the 2 entities, I propose that in homage to the good old days of
the 01A and in deference to Glen Zook's excellent tome, that he design,
build, and test for us a receiver that uses nothing but 6146/6146A.
Naturally, 6146B cannot be used.
