A friend bought a partially restored Halli receiver that someone had managed to destroy the bandswitch through excessive heating trying to remove some old components."

For recapping of an SX-28 I removed the shield plates to which the bandswitch wafers and coils are attached. This entailed disconnection of quite a few wires. I didn't even dare to try to desolder those leads from the fragile bandswitch wafer terminals. I instead cut the leads, leaving a 1/4 inch stub of wire at each bandswitch terminal. Upon reassembly I spliced the leads using homemade quigs - looks neat, works well, and no risk to the bandswitch.
