Hi Herman,
Got my novice in April 54 and at that time just about everyone used the
Walter Ashe QSL, hi. It was amazing back then because shortly after the FCC
issued you your callsign, a sample of the Walter Ashe QSLs would show up in
your mailbox, WITH YOUR CALLSIGN on it! I still have all of my old QSLs and
about once a year I work someone from those days and dig thru my QSL stash
to see if I have one of their "original" cards....I guess I've come across a
dozen which I have forwarded along to the original licensee. Years ago I
got a Xerox copy of the original W4FOA QSL issued back in the 30's I think
by the holder in NC at that time. I'd sure like to find an original W4FOA
from the 20/30's era.
I can't imagine myself buying someone's old QSLs but I must admit that I've
enjoyed collecting my "earned" cards over the years.

Hello all.......
This "recycling" of old QSLs never ceases to amaze (and amuse) me. A
couple years ago, I was at an AWA swapmeet, and one of the vendors (a
non-ham)
had a shoebox full of QSL cards he was offering for a buck each. Most
were very ordinary, and I think they were all from the continental 48.
Ordinarily I wouldn't have spent much time digging around in such a box,
but on
top of the deck was an old Novice QSL card that was first "issued" in the
mid 1950s, by an old friend of mine. I decided to go after it so I could
get it to my buddy, who's callsign is still used by him these days, but
without the "N", which got dropped over 50 years ago. Anyway, the old
Walter-Ashe card was in nice shape, and still had the one or two cent stamp
on
it. Once I made up my mind I wanted this "rare" (but I didn't indicate
this to the seller) card, it was time to settle on the price. I decided
to
offer the seller a deal he COULDN'T refuse, and that was to offer a
pristine, never circulated (or marked up) card, and he got really excited.
I
proceeded to give him one of MY cards, which he gladly accepted as an even
trade. The card I got from him is now in the hands of its original
issuer,
who was very glad to get it........he'd not kept any of his Novice cards
from long ago, and he'd been hoping to find one for years. To date,
that's
the only QSL I've gone after, other than ones from stations I've worked.
