[Boatanchors] Space Shuttle (OT, kinda)

Fear not! The Chinese have a goal of landing on the moon in 2020+. They are 
a long ways away from Mars!

A combined force of the USA and the ESA and Russia already have plans on the 
drawing boards and tests of the Orien engines already in progress. The 
budget cuts will prevent our launch of Orien in 2013, possibly to 2018. But 
we are definitely going to put a man on an asteroid, build a base on the 
moon and go for Mars by 2030.

All of this assumes that the asteroid that is going to just barely miss the 
Earth in 2029 and hit the Earth in 2036, does not send us back to the age of 
stones!

Maybe what is truly going on is NASA, and others around the planet, trying 
to figure out some way to deflect this Earth bound asteroid in 2036. You do 
not read much, if anything, in the newspapers about it now. What I see is 
all in NASA bulletins and news releases.

There is enough Titanium on the moon, as well as Helium #3, to make lunar 
mining very profitable! Since agreements state that "nobody" owns the moon, 
mining could get a bit like a gold rush of 1849! Messy and deadly! Hopefully 
not, but greed seems to take precedince over sanity all too often.
