Yesterday, the above became a "hot topic" on this site. I apologize if I
missed some of the responses to the initial thread. Someone apparently
reported that an FAA regulation now prohibits the use of scanners within the
parameter of any controlled airport. Has anyone been able to verify from a
credible source that such a law is on the books? Apparently, reportedly, it
became a law under the guise of "homeland security." Also, someone
mentioned that a call to the FAA confirmed this as true. It is not my
intent to discredit anyone, but I can't follow some of the logic.
Reportedly, this is a law, but someone who contacted a Congressman was told
(or reported) that the information could not be disclosed for security
reasons (my analysis). That is the logic I cannot follow. If such a law
exists that subjects violators to fines and/or imprisonment, scanner users
must have some notice or warning. Yet, apparently none exists. Please, if
this alleged FAA regulation has been verified, let us know and if a link to
a credible (e.g. FAA) website exists provide that also. To the individual
who apparently did receive confirmation from the FAA, to whom did you speak?
If this has already been dispelled as a poor joke or hoax, I would like to
know that as well. Thank you.
