>From my monitoring perspective in the Springfield Massachusetts area, =
most have either gone to astro digital (e.g. IRS CID) or some sort of =
encryption method (DEA, FBI). Rare occasion will get some simplex or =
repeaters in the clear. One net carries a lot of traffic, but =
basically is a locator type activity (e.g. I'm in the car, or I'm off =
at) & anything that's going to be a long conversation goes to the =
cellular/pcs phone . Numerous TV video footage (local & national), as =
well as some local newspaper coverage has shown FBI agents using =
cellular phones vs. tactical portable radios. Again it's possible that =
some of the low power portable simplex traffic is unencrypted BUT you'd =
have to be pretty close to catch it!!!!
Personally, the frequencies remain in the scanner, BUT I don't hold much =
hope for hearing much action. The other alternative is that many of the =
feds seem to have access to the area police coordination net and on some =
rare occasions are heard on that net in the clear.
