I'm located in New England and both the National guard and Army Reserve =
units occasionally 'play' in the federal dam areas here. After the =
great North Eastern floods of 1955, the federal gov't collected a lot of =
land and built quite a few dams on some of the rivers. This has given a =
few of the local reserve components a playground without having to wait =
for their summer stints.
On weekends, I have occasionally heard short (and I do mean SHORT) =
messages and mic clicks on a few of the ISR freqs. I believe the =
command structure is probably listening, so they're sticking to proper =
radio procedures. Next time there's weekend activity, I'll also check =
the 462mHz FRS freqs. I'll bet quite a few of our weekend warriors =
bring along their own FRS units (and cell phones) for personal traffic - =
it is hard to play 'dis-the-lt' on the company net !
During 1989 and 1990, a lot of our troops who were stationed in the more =
modern metropolitan areas in the Middle East rented cell phones (against =
regs, but who's counting) and a few brought their 2M HTs. There were =
quite a few illicit 'nets' running.
