Hello BillL
Gee, thanks for the information, that's a great congressman's idea....I
would imagine that the publishing of these route maps is going to cause
more (code word removed, because I'm unsure if it is in public domain)
implementation than before -- so listen carefully. Better get to the site
quick because it probably will be gone, just like the Commerce Business
Daily, and shortly the FCC public safety agencies radio licenses data base.
HOWEVER, I would think that any activity with nuclear waste would probably
be under surveillance by terrorists who would know when the shipment was
taking place & than implement the plan. You really think there's guards &
other security vehicles on all these shipments? I highly doubt that!!!
Also these vehicles per Federal DOT regulations have to have a placard
notification on them showing any hazardous materials they are carrying so
this is another invitation to terrorists to easily ID a truck shipment with
potential hazardous materials
Interestingly 8+ years ago we had a nuclear materials accident (involving
very low level radiation waste) when a tractor trailer truck (non DOE)
carrying a load was hit head on by a car going the wrong way on Interstate
91 right in downtown Springfield, Massachusetts very early one morning.
Initially, if I remember correctly FD wasn't totally appraised of
situation. Fire was so hot it burnt hole right through 6+ foot block of
concrete (bridge) into one of the city Parking areas underneath the
overhead highway. Recovery did occur & that also caused a stir in a few
communities that were upset when the material was transported through their
communities without prior notification to an appropriate secure location.
Sampling didn't indicate any contamination off highway area.
