1. I have used Scancat Gold for Windows to program & read/save memories of
about 22 scanners (Uniden BC-245XLT; Uniden BC-780XLT; Radio Shack Pro-2052).
Scancat is complicated, and takes a significant amount of time to learn. My
only problem using Scancat with the Uniden 780 is that I have not been able to
get it to program the 10th scan list in any bank of any 780 using 3 different
computers. Another Scancat user I know says he has not had this problem. Jim
Springer, who writes the Scancat software, is very helpful, and always responds
to my emailed questions. The other significant advantage of Scancat is that
you can use the same database to program numerous models of radios. None of the
other software does this, with the exception of AFS780. It handles the Uniden
BC-245XLT & Uniden BC-780XLT.
2. I have no experience with Winscan, but I have seen several postings stating
that
tech support is minimal or non-existent.
3. As another Fedcom'er replied, you should go to www.strongsignals.net, and
go to the software section. There are links to numerous software providers,
including AFS780, which is freeware. I have used AFs780 a little bit, with some
success and a problem: While trying to program a 780, the software locked up
when it encountered the first vacant memory location in my scan lists (ie, a
blank space where I had no talkgroup programmed).
