The FEMA frequencies that I have programmed into my 780xlt have been silent
(probably a good thing) until last evening. A weak signal was received on
418.0750, which is FEMA's S&R Tac-2 frequency. Actually, I did not hear any
voices and it wasn't the strongest signal, but it broke through the
squelch. At first I thought I was receiving an encrypted signal, but it did
not have the traditional sound associated with digital encryption. (More
likely a transmission that was too far away or low RF power for the scanner
to actually detect.) My understanding, although possibly incorrect, is
that their transmissions are in the clear. Coincidentally, the Vice
President is scheduled to be in my city today. So, for those of you who
have much more knowledge than I, why did 418.0750 suddenly come to life? Is
it possible that the USSS advance team is using that frequency or is the
VP's arrival here completely unrelated? Any thoughts? A second question
would be has the USSS gone completely digital yet. Many folks have reported
hearing some of their conversations prior to an "event." Except for
418.0750 at least making some noise, I have heard nothing on any of the
USSS frequencies. Thanks for your time and patience.
