As an aside, the facilities at Groom Lake probably have HF capability. Base
Camp has it for sure because you can see the antenna:

There is also HF capability at Cedar Pass:

Now those frequencies should be easy to hear in California without taking a
trip to the desert.

Regarding high altitude, I have a recording of a U2 that I made while at the
Tonopah Test Range, though it might have been at Groom Lake for all I know.
