Heck, it would be a massive improvement if the people that were doing the
screening weren't the lowest paid rung of the entire security industry.
Increase the pay dramatically, revamp the standards so that they're not
funneling back the same people that were there before (the KSAs are so damn
specific that someone with a few weeks of airport experience would look
better than a veteran Secret Service agent), and attract a higher standard
of people. Make it a job that will attract the far more qualified people
that are in the upper echelons of private security, armored car, and the
like. I agree that it would be great to staff the posts with veteran cops,
but are there really enough of them to go around?
