Hello Folks,
I am trying to decide what freq ranges to start working next. Until now =
I
have been working Military Air and Ground freq ranges and have put =
together
some reasonably decent lists for my area. I am still not done but am at =
a
point that I need to start thinking about what to get into next.
I'll give a brief explanation of how I generally go about doing things =
just
to give you folks some idea of my capabilities then I hope to get some
feedback as to what freq ranges would be good for me to work next.
I use a BC780XLT running under TrunkStar 780 to search a given freq =
range
for a month at a time. It auto stores these freqs for me and every =
couple of
days I transfer the new freqs found over to Spectrum Explorer which runs =
the
Pro-2035 w/OS535 board. This scanner is then used to find Pl tones, =
signal
strength, count hits, track active air time and a couple of other "data"
related factors. Then I pick the freqs with the best looking data and =
put
those freqs in another file in Spectrum Explorer which then controls the
Icom PCR-1000 and this rig simply scans and records all audio =
transmitted on
these freqs until I can identify the user of the freq in my area. Once I
have the freq identified I lock it out of all the previous scanners and =
put
it into the BC250 and the Pro-26 just for listening purposes.
To date, I have followed the above plan and worked 138-144 MHz in AM & =
FM
modes. Also I have worked the entire range from 225-400 MHz in AM. I =
still
have some identifying to do in the 225-400 range but come the end of
February I will be looking for another good search range to work. I =
think I
have the "Normal" Military Bands covered pretty well for this area and =
have
seen numerous posts about Customs getting involved with possible CAP =
duties
over major cities.=20
What I was hoping you folks could do would be to point me toward a =
couple of
good freq ranges to work next. I live in southern MD so chances are I =
will
not pick up too much traffic from ground bases transmitters in the DC =
area
but do pick up quite a bit of the airspace in Maryland as well as =
Virginia.
I have all the normal public service type freqs squared away so that is =
of
no interest. I am looking into Govt. related comms. Hence my joining the
discussion group. I can't say that I am looking onto focusing on any one
particular organization within the Govt. as I have never went after =
Govt.
comms before and don't know where to start.
Any feedback or direction you folks could offer would be greatly
appreciated. If I don't keep all these radios doing something my wife =
will
kill me and start hinting about how much we could make at the next yard
sale.
