About the two weather channels in one area, we (ST LOUIS) have two
weather channels (162.450 (NW area) and 162.55 (primary)) due to the
wide area coverage. One reports to outer suburbs. There is enough
distance between outer communities, that a north flow of weather will
miss the center (downtown) but be a threat elsewhere. The general
regional forecasts are the same, but in inclement weather, there can be
up to 30 minutes from the time a storm front hits the windward side of
the region and when it hits the downwind side of the region. In case of
tornadoes or high wind storms, the broadcasts become more localized for
thier own coverage area.

This might explain the two weather channels in your area. Also, when
skip is good, I can hear Memphis, Peoria IL, and Quincy IL.all of which
are a few hundred miles away.
