[FedCom] Pirates on Fed 160's Freqs, La.

Hi, The way radios are designed these days, anyone can show up almost anyplace. The
smart ones will pick someplace quiet; As the saying goes, if a tree falls in the
forest, and nobody is nearby, it wont make any noise,,,.

One of the Icom marine rigs from a few yrs ago could easily be set to operate on a
while raff  of "private" channels. Commerical fishermen just LOVE them. Most of
these were freqs in the 158 - 158.800 and 162-163.400 Mhz area. Along w/ some 155
Mhz ones, which are REAL easy to get noticed on. One that I still pick up activity
on is 155.500( <5K from 155.505) MHz. Other freqs such as 151.625 and 154.600 also
seem to get their share of activity too; Those radio are cheap and plentiful..

One other place that has yeilded a recent find is on one of the  2x guard freqs;
plus and minus 25KHz from 156.800MHz: CH16 Emergency and Calling freq.At first I
thought it was a "play" freq for some local cops, but as it turned out, it was just
some lowlife wanna bees,.

And of course what goes around come around: I can can recall back when a nearby
city first had their special undercover ops repeater w/ the input freq 5K off from
one Marine freq. Somebody inadvertantly left the PL switched OFF, and for the
longest time there was all sorts of unexplained traffic on there about picking up
large quanities of ice and diesel fuel,,,,. Fun times on the coast of New England.
