I'll respectfully disagree here. I've used Antennex
products and haven't had any problems with them.
The VHF-hi one that I've had experience with has
performed at about the same level as a VHF quarter
wave antenna. Their scanner antenna (ABSCAN) is
currently my favorite mobile scanner antenna; it has
given me good performance on VHF/UHF land mobile
as well as UHF milair. Previously, that had been a
difficult combination to find in a compact antenna.

In my opinion, you have to take usage into mind.
If you'll be using the antenna in a system that uses
repeaters, it wouldn't be a bad choice. If your system
is simplex, then I would probably choose a higher
gain whip antenna. If you plan on using a Phantom
VHF-hi antenna in a purely scanning use, you probably
    wouldn't be happy with it.

Just my .02 worth,
