On the official CAP website is a policy letter which redefines the use of
Family Radio Service radios by Civil Air Patrol.
FRS Radios can be used for:
1. Attempting to contact people they are searching for when the lost
parties have FRS radios.. Example given of CO Wing search mission that ended
successful by CAP using FRS to locate lost parties when air seach had
failed.
2. Non-Emergency Service CAP Activities... I would assume this would mean
any other CAP activity and was evident of use at the Schenectady
airshow/open house last summer.
CAP Emergency Services communications must still use either VHF-FM radios or
the new Intra Squad radios.
