SATURDAY JUNE 5, 2004 - 0800 MDT
NATIONAL PREPAREDNESS LEVEL 1
CURRENT SITUATION:
Initial attack activity was moderate in Arizona and Colorado and light
elsewhere, with 109 fires reported nationally. One new large fire was
reported in the Rocky Mountain Area. Two large fires were contained, one
in the Southwest Area and one in the Eastern Great Basin Area. Very high
to extreme fire indices were reported in Alaska, Arizona, California,
Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota,
Texas, Utah and Wyoming.

SOUTHERN AREA LARGE FIRES:
SANTA FE SWAMP, Florida Division of Forestry. This fire is six miles
southwest of Keystone Heights, FL in dry swamp. Thunderstorms with
unpredictable winds were a major concern. Active fire behavior with
occasional torching in the interior was observed. Good progress was made
building and improving fireline.
ROAD 1, Florida Division of Forestry. A Florida Division of Forestry Type
2 Incident Management Team (Jones) is assigned. This fire is 17 miles
northwest of Macclenny, FL in pine. Moderate fire behavior was observed
in
interior pockets of fuel. Precipitation aided containment efforts.
YELVINGTON, Florida Division of Forestry. This fire is five miles east of
East Palatka, FL in swamp. No further information was received.
ROCK ROAD, Florida Division of Forestry. This fire is 11 miles southeast
of Bonita Springs, FL in pine, cabbage palm and cypress. Fireline
improvement and mop up continued.
