>> Were you copying the plane on 165.2375 or on the input?
I was monitoring 165.2375 / 100.0. Both the airplane and ground units were
on the channel, but the ground units were not being heard via the repeater.
About 4 p.m., the person working the spotter's radio asked the units to try
channel 3, then 2 ... with no luck. I got the impression that channel 2 is
165.2375 / 100.0 simplex.
>> It seems odd for them to work simplex in the surveillance area, only to
bring
up repeaters hundreds of miles away. I was hearing them on 165.2375 / 100.0.
Although I generally don't monitor fedcom channels, I get the impression
"Sector" can activate multiple repeaters if warranted. I've had occasions where
I've monitored surveillance on this channel traveling up I-95 through S.C., as
well as surveillance in the Greensboro area of N.C. Both areas are well
beyond my normal monitoring range. Like yesterday, tropo conditions were not noted
on VHF in my area.
