This is great information !  I just received my decoder yesterday and
integrated it last night and will go to try to sample some P25
transmissions.

The manual gives very little technical information, and nothing about the
serial data connection, or soft configs, as you have pointed out here.

Hi, Ive been using an ARD25 for over the past yr now. Im using it to decode
Local and State Police on 150 MHz freqs, using an old Regency TurboScan as a
receiver since it uses a 10.7 MHz 1st IF. I find the ARD to be far more
flexible than the current generation of P25 scanenrs out there. One example
being
is that you can program it to pass only P25 signals, or mixed. One feature
often overlooked is the data output port, when conected to a PC or other
device
running as a Terminal Emulator, will  at the end of ea transmission, spit
out the ANI ID, and the (P25)Talk Group data for the unit being received. It
looks as though it can should also be able to porvide the NAC(NID, Moto
speak) info as well but its been disabled,,:(  AOR has only been of limited
help
here; Either theyre simply trying to play stupid, or they actually are,,. Or
they simply dont understand P25 protocol,.  Unless they have seriously
improved the manual supplied w/ the ARD, the manual only supplies limited
info as well regarding both the data port and how to interface the ARD to
receivers besides their own or Icoms.

>From extensive research that we did last, and published in my Scanning USA
columns(Oct,Nov) I tested not only how the interface the ARD w/ a range of
other receivers such as the  PRO2006, BC780 and IC-R100, we also found a way
to bypass the internal 10.7 IF demod so that a "baseband" IE: discriminator
signal from any  scanner(or other receiver) could be used w/ the ARD. We
also mapped out the functions of several of the "soft commands" the ARD
could be
programmed for. To connect the data port on the ARD to a PC, you need a
cable that  has a female DB9 on each end. NOT a Null adaptor, just a
straight
cable. If you make your own, you need only wires connecting  between pins 2,
3, 5, 7 and 8.  After you get the ARD talking to the Terminal program(be
sure
to select Hardware flow cont). Type in the command "ADC"(using uppercase)
and a return and the ARD will shoot back a short list of settings. Most of
these  can be changed using  either "YES" or "NO", or number value. A cpl fo
the more usful ones are ADA, which selects(YES/NO) to pass only P25 signals.
APR which retruns the ARD to its orignal defaults. And APN(YES/NO) which
tells the ARD the "polarity" of the IF or basband signal. Note, that in
order to
get the APR and APN commands to take effect, you need to breifly switch the
ARD OFF after sending the command. Good luck and have fun.

If anyone has had any luck in being enabling the ARD to display NAC codes,
shown in the end of transmission data as "DI:xxxx" , Id be very interested
in
knowing how to do it.  Thanks
