Thanks for your replies to my post about the unidentified pager on 413.8625 
Mhz. heard in New York's Mid-Hudson valley area.

I'm way too far from Canada to receive UHF signals from there.

I'm fairly sure it's a real signal. A major reason is some book research 
(which I should have done earlier!).

Both the Scanner Master NY-NJ guide and the federal Master Frequency File 
book show the callsign KBO789 for paging and fire at the Veteran's Administration 
hospital at Montrose in Westchester County. This is the same CW callsign I 
taped and copied on 413.8625.

So a reasonable guess would be some kind of joint use of this UHF frequency 
for paging only (no voice ever heard) by Montrose and the Castle Point VA 
hospital here in Dutchess County.This would explain hearing strong and weaker 
signals. The paging channels they formerly used (164.5 for Castle Point and 164.175 
for Montrose) are now quiet. I used to hear both (164.175 the weaker one).
