My local trunked system in Missouri is both digital and analog 9600 baud
Motorola system. But when they installed the system, Motorola also put
conventional 800 MHz repeaters on the same towers as the trunked system that is used as
a back-up system and to cross-band with VHF and UHF simplex / mutual aid
frequencies. All mobile and portable radios have the trunked and conventional
repeater channels programmed into there radios so they can switch over to the
back-up system at a moments notice. Works really well.
