>>>Recently, a colleague posted a question asking why there is no
discussion of
DHS frequencies.
<<<
Actually we talk about DHS frequencies all the time. We were just on the
subject of the Federal Protective Service a while back, Border Patrol,
Customs, Secret Service, all are part of DHS. The thing to remember is
that the Department of Homeland Security consists of many different
agencies. There aren't really DHS frequencies as such, but frequencies
assigned to the various agencies under DHS. Many frequencies of the DHS
agencies are the same or close to the frequencies they had when they were
under the Justice Department or Treasury Department.
>>>
I don't know if the DHS actually dispatches vehicles to a site using their
own vehicles
as would the FBI, USSS, etc,
<<<
As I said, there is not a DHS dispatcher, as there is not a Justice
Department dispatcher or a Treasury Department dispatcher. Various agencies
under DHS have dispatch centers, but there is not one for all DHS agencies.
>>>
Apparently, there is/was speculation that
166.4625 would be/could be/would most likely be the nationwide common
frequency for the DHS.
<<<
Not speculation, but noted a few years ago in a Customs & Border Protection
radio, 166.4625 MHz was tagged as "DHS COMMON".
>>>
On a not so reliable web site, I did find 167.2375
(PL 167.9) posted as DHS/FBI and 171.1750 (PL 167.9) listed as "DHS Radio
Net". I seriously doubt the accuracy of this information. Otherwise, my
colleague is correct, I cannot find any credible discussion or posting of
DHS frequencies.
<<<
Anything listed as "DHS Radio Net" is simply being non-specific, perhaps
because they don't know exactly what agency is using it. And 167.2375 MHz
as "DHS / FBI", I seriously doubt it. The FBI tends to keep their radio
nets to themselves.
