The "Springfield (MA) Sunday Republican", 4/9/06 edition, Business Section
(D)
has an interview with Special Agent in Charge Internal Revenue Service
Criminal Investgation Field Office in Boston.. He was interviewed recently
when he made a visit to the Springfield Office.
Basically there's 10 agents in the Springfield Office. 120 New England
wide.
The agents focus on tax fraud/evasion, but also get involved in money
laundering & political corruption cases. Most have backgrounds in
accounting and/or bank finance versus law enforcement.
Radio Communications wise, nothing was mentioned. I think that the nature
of the the investigations would probably result in use of cellphones rather
than radio equipment. I think it's been over 3 years since I've monitored
any IRS CID activity, which at that time as in the VHF highband area.
Further information on IRS CID can be found at:

Historically the Webster report (1999) emphasized the CID getting back to
its' basics.
