I've heard them in the Boston area on 165.9500 P-25, very little
traffic though, last time was maybe last fall, 3 or 4 units doing radio
checks seeing how their "new" radio were working.

Same up here in the Pacific Northwest. About 2 years ago we stumbled across
a new repeater installed at a local tower site marked "TIGTA". Turns out to
be the new version of what was the IRS ORI, now the Treasury Inspector
General for Tax Administration. You can read up on them:
http://www.ustreas.gov/tigta/
They are on both 165.9500 MHz and 164.5375 MHz (repeater in 172.6375 MHz),
all P-25. Mostly routine check ins, but sometimes some interesting comms. I
received info that TIGTA might be using 165.0375 MHz for simplex
surveillance work, but have not confirmed that.

I remember back in Miami years ago they were on 418.2250, alot, alot of
surveilance work.

I think all the UHF nets went away around the time the Treasury Department
and the IRS re-organized around 1998 or 99. I haven't heard a peep on the
old 418.225, 418.275 frequencies in many years.
I remember a time in the 90's when the IRS units must have gotten new
radios with some expanded channels, as one IRS agent tried getting a radio
check from the DEA comm center on their 418.625 frequency. The DEA
dispatcher chased them off because they didn't know who they were or why
they were on their frequency!
