Good comments Ken,

As far as making notes to self while driving,  I often use a small handheld
digital recorder.
Just voice the "note" and if desired, transcribe it later.
The recorder is also often used to copy critical traffic from the radio
especially if solo in the vehicle and in motion when receiving same.
