[FedCom] Postal Inspectors & Security/Radio Systems

Interestingly, I was talking recently with one of the local mail delivery
persons, and the individual was telling me that they have to lock their mail
delivery trucks when they get out of them to deliver the mail. Apparently
various postal levels, local, district, as well as Postal Inspectors run
surveillance on them, and an infraction such as this (not locking the truck)
can result in up to a 3 day suspension.
Locally, the USPS Postal Inspection Service/Security freq (415.05R) doesn't
seem to really indicate what the postal inspectors are doing, so perhaps
cellphones (perhaps Nextel(Sprint) direct connect) are being used more than
the
radio system, unless the cellphone/nextel is in an area that is inaccessible
for cellphones. Additionally, locally I'm under the impression that the
UHF repeater system has multiple repeater access sites throughout the
region.
BTW the primariy reason is the concern that a mail truck would be stolen by
a terrorist, but also security of the mail. The MDP also stated that the
rationale is that "there's a potential terrorist hiding behind every
tree!!!"....
