Good points Ty.. BTW, I just got a msg from a friend in the Tidewater VA
area who had breakfast with a Motorola rep yesterday morning, who is a good
friend of his and a ham... The rep was very excited because Motorola has a
new digital crossbanding board that he will be installing in 5 localities
trunked systems down there soon.

Never sell Motorola and money short.. :)))

Ben, I believe that you are "spot-on" with the cross-banding concept! It is
so totally simple, which is probably why it has been under utilized for so
long! There are some obvious draw backs, it is typically only 1 frequency
(situations requiring the need for this usually will need several freq's),
should the link be "full time" or "as needed", who/what agency is "the gate
keeper", are the assets even in place? ect ect. But when "cooler minds"
prevail, these difficulties can be easily over come.

One of the most simplest ways to accomplish this is through a simple
patch(s) set up on a dispatch console! This will require dispatching
agencies to have assets available to the consoles, which in-turn requires
agencies to cooperate, i.e. give up their "kingdom" mentality! Not an easy
task, but it can be done!

Just my $0.02 worth!
