The current layout is due to change to a standardized list in 2008.
So far the details have yet to be announced. The changes are due to
the NTIA mandate to have narrow-band channels and equipment totally
switched over as of 1 January 2008. Supposedly the freqs will be
the same nationwide. Each district has to come up with the money for
equipment and a location to place the repeater totally on their own.
It's unknown if there will be future federal dollars to make this happen.

The current layout for the repeaters in the NYC/LI area are three
co-channel repeaters on 143.280 with different PL tones. They are
located on the eastern tip of LI, central LI and downtown NYC. The
area of the lower and mid-hudson are in need of a fourth repeater.
However, with all on the same freqs, there are times when I can hear
both the NYC and central LI machine at the same time when two different
flotillas are active. The solution would be to have at least two
separate repeater pairs and leapfrog the coverage areas. It is still
unknown if that is what will be done or what the freq will be.
