Makes good sense to me.  We all know that VHF has more range per watt of
output power and more range = fewer repeaters to maintain.    Also with the
"rechanneling" to "splinter-band" ,  haven't the available VHF freqs just
about doubled ?     Should be plenty of room.
At least for the immediate future.

BTW,  are we also interested in US Forest Service freqs here ?
