Well recently there's been some discussion on this list about the Internal
Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation Division.

Plenty of information on IRS Investigation can be found at the official
website:
http://www.ustreas.gov/irs/ci/
http://www.irs.gov/compliance/enforcement/article/0,,id=98205,00.html

Grove's "Federal Frequency Directory" 2nd edition, using the search term
"Internal Revenue & IRS" lists 38 "hits"
"Internal Revenue": potentially 4 VHF freqs
"IRS": 34 hits consisting potentially of 14 VHF highband freqs, 30 UHF
freqs (8 simplex 12 repeater pairs).

Kneitel's "The 'Top Secret' Registry of U.S. Government Radio Frequencies"
8th edition lists:
"Criminal Investigation Division Repeaters & Duplex freqs": 1 VHF pair, 5
repeater/duplex pairs
"CID Simplex": 3 VHF, 3 UHF
"Internal Affairs": VHF 2 simplex, 1 repeater pair.

IMHO again I think that this agency primarily uses cellphones & nextel w/t's
services in performing investigations and just as the USMS, may revert to
low power w/t's during the execution of arrests and/or search warrants.

In addition the IRS has 6 major tax processing centers (Atlanta GA, Andover
MA, Kansas City MO, Philadelphia PA, Austin TX, Fresno CA) which has a
security/guard force assigned. IF a contractor is used, it's possible that
non federal business type frequencies might be used.

Not much has been published on these security type frequenicies. Locally,
Scanner Master's "Massachuetts Communications Guide", 6th edition (Oct
1996), 1 UHF frequency (not paired) for "Andover Office Operations"......
Additionally the publication lists 5 CID VHF only frequencies to include, 2
"Operational Repeater" pairs, 2 "car/car" and 1 "direct". About 4 years
ago I monitored some VHF "direct" frequency (mobile/mobile) comms in my
area.

Over many, many years ago I remember someone telling me about a "no notice"
inspection being conducted on a processing facility's contracted security
force, that resulted in the immediately dismissal of the contractor and the
deployment of a US Marshals Service team to provide "on site" security until
a new contractor could be brought in. Not sure if the security function is
still a contracted type activity at all IRS processing facilities.

Once again all you "frequency sleuths" on the list here's another monitoring
challenge!!!

Ken
