Here in DFW, they use 163.200 (PL 167.9) in repeater
mode, and 163.200 (PL 136.5) in direct/simplex for
surveillance. However, traffic is very sparse.

On a separate note, I saw a program recently on HDNet
that focused on the Fugitive and Apprehension Task
Force of ICE. The camera crews went with teams in
Detroit and Denver. In both instances, while the ICE
team officers had Motorola XTS VHF radios on their
hips, guess what was used for all the surveillances
and take downs? Yep, you guessed it. Nextel...or
a local cell phone provider's handie talkie service.
Not once did they get on their VHF radio to talk.

So I guess my question is, and so should be
taxpayers, if they are going to sit there and yak
on their Nextel and cell phone, then why am I
paying for their multi-million dollar digital and
analog secure VHF/UHF comm systems???
Seems like a total waste to me.
