True. I suppose I need to eliminate the "exercise" on
that description as it IS only a "real" SAR frequency,
although personally I've never heard it used in over
20 years of monitoring. I think the reason that I had
put "exercise" in there was because I had seen one
of the ops manuals from one of the Texas SAREX,
and it said that was authorized for use during the
exercise. I've only heard 121.5 used once in an
emergency situation, and this was in Florida.
A student pilot was out flying VFR, and the weather
quickly changed to fog and IFR. Apparently, he forgot
where the airport was, sorta' freaked, and had to be
guided by other pilots back to the airport.

And for us here in Texas that is 122.9, however I have
two airports within a ten mile radius that use that as
their primary traffic frequency. I doubt CAP would use
it too often, as the potential for interference to other
craft taking off and landing would greatly increase.
Apparently, they can also do ELT training here on
121.775, however, I've never heard it used.
