Hi Ken and the Group, This is one of the primary ways fugitives are
tracked and caught --- by cellphone and it doesn't have to be a GPS
enabled phone. Many people aren't aware that you don't have to be
talking on the cellphone to be tracked. If your cellphone turned on
it is sending out it's ESN, basically saying this is me and I'm
waiting for a call. The cell system is polled looking for that ESN
it then can be determined which tower is receiving the signal.
I believe you mentioned about aircraft being used in surveillances.
Most intensive surveillances do use aircraft. Gone are the days when
the "tail" had to keep the subject in visible contact. The plane is
used for observation and radio communication, as all units will be on
simplex.
