Finally heard some activity this evening on 139.950
(PL 118.8), a frequency for the FEMA Region 4 HQ
facility in Denton, Tx. (ID'ed as KPF406). The radio
techs were using the frequency for alt/az readings,
adjusting the antennas, and rf links. The antenna
field outside the facility is rather impressive.
Also, on a completely separate note, finally
heard some activity on 123.1, but it was not
the kind of traffic I was hoping for. Some pilots
flying around the DFW metro decided to use this
as their informal chit chat. So at least here in N
Texas, the "official" SAR frequency isn't very official.
And probably the reason for that is, nobody monitors
it on a continuous basis (like 121.5/243.M0) and can
enforce the users. Whether this frequency would
actually be used in a real emergency here is
anyone's guess, IMO.
