[FedCom] CAP, etc.

Hello Bob & the group:

Thanks for your input on CAP current frequencies usage in KS.... Since most
of CAP's current VHF radio network's mobiles & portables are primarily
member privately owned (non compliant radios), I'm guessing that you aren't
going to see "quick" movement to the newer frequencies since this will
SEVERELY impact CAP's radio communications capabilities. IMHO most wings
(states) will be changing over their repeaters late summer, early fall 2007.
Perhaps Fiscal Year 2008 (10/1/07) is the changeover goal.

It will be interesting to see if CAP get's a deal with EF Johnson to allow
member's to buy the radios at the same cost (which I assume is at least
$3800.00?). A list of compliant VHF radios can be found at:
https://ntc.cap.af.mil/comm/equipment/vhf_summary.cfm

Some of the equipment on that list if approved is "reasonable" in cost for
individual members to buy. Others on that list are very expensive & most
members aren't going to be able to afford P25 digital radios!

Ken
