Thursday had news all over the TV about an FBI agent shot & killed
in NJ during apprehension of would-be bank robbers they were onto
before the fact due to a tip, but I didn't hear any traffic involving this
at all during the afternoon subsequent to the occurrence. In the evening,
I caught some clear surveillance on 172.475 within NYC but nothing
regarding the incident.
They did make several references to "the plant", unsure if a person or
a location. When they were finished for the evening, they advised one
guy (used his first name, which I don't recall now) that he could "shut the
plant down now for the night." Is there some common use for this word
"plant" that I'm not aware of?
Friday during the early afternoon I had an OMAHA acft on the LaGuardia
local traffic control freq of 126.05 for a while, coming, going, landing for
fuel, etc. This is the low-level TCA for Manhattan's airspace, busy all day
with tourist & commuter helos. I never made out much detail as this is 40
miles south of me and they're doing about 1000 ft. There was no related
traffic on any Customs frequencies during his being airborne. I thought
perhaps he was in the area to assist in a search for one of the bank robbers
still being sought in NJ from Thursday, but he sure wasn't searching for him
in Manhattan.
Later on I had a CG acft on this freq as well, but very poorly, perhaps at a
very low altitude, didn't catch his callsign, and once again there was no
related
traffic on the CG frequencies at all.
Very frustrating...
