Yup, every morning at 0700 the China Lake NAWS Tower performs
transmitter tests with China Control on 121.5 and 243.0. Every now and
then you will also hear aircraft that are unfamiliar with the airfield
come up on 'Guard' and check in with the tower or China Control, you
wouldnt believe how many new freqs ive collected from guard handoffs.
There were also a few times when I lived in Newhall (Northern Los
Angeles County) I would often hear military aircraft, usually Nat Guard
helos, initiate conversations with airliners. After a minute or two the
conversation would often switch to 123.450 or another freq around 129 MHz.
