FBI Multiple Repeater Keyups Re: [FedCom] FBI DFW

Hello Blaine & the group:
Some additional comments to my first posting on this subject.
Here in the Springfield MA area I've noted the same multiple keyups.
My guess is that originally the FBI had only 1 repeater on a local mountain
top/high hill BUT found that in certain local geographic areas, low power
portable "in vehicle" operations had problems with consistently hitting the
mountain top regional repeater. So the FBI placed some "fill in" repeaters
in certain geographic areas. The actual users of the repeaters are based
upon geographical location and not on specific function of the FBI or FBI
sponsored/supported activity.
Now technically, it's unclear to me whether all the repeaters are linked via
microwave or fiber optics OR if the "fill in repeater" outputs are actually
inputs to the regional repeater. Repeater outputs are all different
frequencies. The regional repeater is definitely linked to the Boston
office. When unencrypted the output CTCSS on all repeaters is 167.9.
Again it's unclear to me IF different input CTCSS are also being used on
each repeater input OR if just the channel selection just has a different
repeater input frequency.
Overall we don't get much FBI radio traffic in our area. Most of the time
they are usually going to cellphones. There's also some indication that
Sprint/Nextel walkie talkie functional units may be used.
Ken
