[FedCom] air force base communications and encryption

Hi, Jeff...

I can tell you only what I observed in Little Rock late last year when I was
there for a few days...

I also picked up the trunked system you are referring to. It is a Motorola
SmartNet system that shows a system ID of 4628. The frequencies that I
identified with this system are;
406.1625, 406.3625, 406.5625, 406.7625, 406.9625, 407.1625, 407.3625 and
409.7625. All were using P-25 digital mode and all that I monitored were
encrypted.

RadioReference and folks on the Arkansas forum on RR seem to think this is
Little Rock AFB, but I am not convinced. I made a trip up to LRAFB myself
and was unable to pick up any trace of this system while I drove around the
perimeter of the base. I was also hearing base fire and security ops on VHF
P-25 frequencies while I was there. I was only able to start picking up the
control channel of this system when I got back in to Little Rock proper. So
I have no idea where this system is or who it belongs to. But I don't think
it is Little Rock AFB.
