What range were you expecting from a 1W radio ?

The 900MHZ band used is a 'line-of-sight' type of propagation. it should
get enough coverage to cover a convention center out to the parking lots.

I have a pair of these and have gotten about a mile in open fields (flat
farmland).
For the most part, they are used around our house & barns -- but that only
needs about 1/4 mile max range.
